Markets Flat, Loosing Steam

Yesterday markets closed almost flat. The FTSE posted a loss of 0.04%, ending the day at 6,053.44 and the Dow closed 12,381.11, up 0.01%. S&P 500 and Nasdaq edged lower about 0.3%.

FTSE Advances, Dow Retreats

Equities in the UK advanced by 0.81%, with FTSE closing at 6055.80, after a day of declines because of earthquake fears in Japan. In the US markets closed down. The Dow fall back to 12,380.05, down 0.40%. Equities started with gains but erode them during the day. FTSE was lucky by having closed before that happened, avoiding a retreat.

Yesterday everything was going relatively calm in equity markets. Trichet pulled the trigger of interest rates pushing ECB rate to 1.25% from its two-year record low level. 

The Interest Rate Dilemma

Another year high close was formed yesterday at 12,426.75 for the Dow 30. The index posted a gain of 0.22% and is up 7.34% so far this year, no matter any crude oil rises. FTSE rose 0.57% to close at 6,041.1, but it's just 2.39% up this year and bellow its highs . The last three weeks have been magnificent for equities, and the FTSE had only registered 3 losses in 15 sessions.

Markets Rest But Keep an Eye Open

Markets lacked a strong move yesterday, closing mostly flat in London and New York. Investors took a breathe but just a small one and with an eye wide open. No one seems to want to lose this plane that is flying higher and higher. After marking an year high, closing at 12,400 on Monday, the Dow closed 0.05% lower yesterday at 12,393.90. The FTSE lose a bit more, closing at 6007.1, down 0.16%.

Bear markets still sleeping

Yesterday was a quiet session for equity markets filled with lack of direction and low volumes. FTSE 100 was up 0.12% and is still above 6000 points, and 1.23% bellow this year higher close. The Dow edged 0.19% higher and is at this year's high, having closed at 12,400.03. FTSE 100 is up 1.98% this year and the Dow is up 7.10%

Up Again

Last Friday was another positive day for equity markets. FTSE marked a huge gain of 1.71% and closed above 6000 points. The British main index abandoned the 6000 level in the session of 28 February and took a little more than one month to recover back. US markets also ended up, with the Dow ending at 12,376.72, up 0.5% and S&P at 1332.41, up 0.47%.

Markets Fall, But Wearing a Parachute

After six strong sessions, the FSE 100 ended lower yesterday, closing down 0.66% at 5,908.80. S&P 500 and Dow 30 followed the same route, although both managed to recover some losses near the end of the session and closed down 0.18 and 0.25% respectively. Nasdaq ended positive.

The End of the Single Currency

Many think the Euro will end soon. Others are betting strong against sovereign debt in Portugal, Spain, Ireland, Greece, and maybe Italy. Europe is a chaos with no money left to fill commitments and will soon go into bankruptcy and lead the Euro to an end.
